kept vs. strip search

vh1 is now a force to be reckoned with when it comes to reality shows. with original programming + some purchased titles suchs as america's next top model + surreal life, vh1 is the next best place on the tv to enjoy the art of reality.

this summer 2 shows began airing, each with very similar queer interests. vh1's kept and vh1's strip search. one seeks a "kept" man for international model jerry hall while the other seeks a group of american dancers for billy cross' new show. each has a wide variety of beautiful to fugly men and each show delivers male muscle.

but i've started seeing that some blogmasters + online personalites are taking sides on which show is better, more unique or just plain entertaining. here on guytvblog, i compare the show as it continues the air. i've given each show the chance to air at least 3 episodes of reality content. here we go.

the show: kept. [definition: a man or woman supported financially by someone in return for being available to them as a sexual partner.]

the premise: 12 american men compete to win the chance at being jerry hall's kept man.

location: london, england

kept's leading men: jason fromer, the hottest contestant to hit the screens in years. devonric, not a fan of jason but the best brother on the cast. jon, the most adorable huggable kissable 5'6" contestant. seth, the hottest contestant with baby fat here and there and also here and don't forget there.

kept's disappointments: slavco, sweet but vain enough that you learn to hate him quickly. brian, the john travolta lookalike that was first voted off, anwar, the black contestant that plays the game so freakin hard it irritates me. ricardo, the contestant twin of slavco who is twice as vain and the stupidest castmember ever to walk onto a reality show.

worst moment of kept: when jason got eliminated. he got eliminated because he kissed some girl at a bar whereas slavco + ricardo brought women home to the house of the reality show and then agreed to lie about it. you're an idiot you texan, brit speaking bitach. you're just omastupid. let's create a new word for jerry. she's jerdiot. jerry + idiot becomes jerdiot.

my review: kept is quite simply devine. each episode begins with a horrid opening sequence but quickly moves into the male drama. jerry hall, the show's grand prize, is completely honest although she may be perceived as just a bit rude by american standards. the house is bland + just not as visually stunning as other reality show homes.

the editing moves very smoothly. the drama is overblown as usual and seems to lead up to something big but then suddenly nothing interesting happens. slavco + ricardo usually create the most drama within any enviornment because they seem to think this experiment in reality belongs to them. what these guys don't realize is that they were only chosen based on their personalities clashing with others in the house. good job producers because they do make great tv.

after a few episodes guytvblog is watching every week. it's not necessarily appointment tv but worth recording and watching at a later time in the week. i'm very curious to find out who wins and then must have sex with the woman! gross.

did you know: jerry hall is a born texan! her age is in the late 40's, early 50's. she's best known for being married to mick jagger. she has an identical twin sister!!! and she has four children. and yes that was her in tim burton's batman, the one wearing the mask.

why is kept better than strip search? because this show has slavco + ricardo, the twin jerdiots.

the show: strip search

the premise: 15 american men compete to be in an american version of billy cross' new male revue in las vegas.

location: las vegas, nv

strip search's leading men: adam + ryan, the most beautiful vh1 bodies to enter the house with reality interest coming from both male and female viewers. tony, the quick to love brother who's both shy and enduring.

strip search's disappointments: sean, the obviously fake contestant with an already successful stripping/modeling career who has been selected via a modeling agency. steve + rick, the jerdiot contestants who don't understand how to grow up as a person both mentally and intellectually while on a reality show. david, the latin daddy with 2 little girls who put himself on a show only to miss home rather than keeping the chance at possibly winning. brian, the cable guy with the fugliest face in the cast. johnny, the blue man hater who was born to play the psycho reality castmember that producers love to feature in every scene [until he's sent home].

worst moment of strip search: the first 2 casting episodes. billy cross came off as the worst celeb to be given a reality show. his quest for perfection was gut wrenching to watch. i couldn't stand it, he's got a crappy reality show on vh1, what does he expect? i can't stand billy cross because of this show.

the review: strip search's house is just the tip of the disappointments that this vh1 show offers. the house itself is uninteresting and a bore to take in visually. why doesn't vh1 learn that the house has to become the 16th castmember, the house must be jaw dropping.

the cast is filled with unfit, nasty american men who could have been replaced with a longer search and more visits to sean's modeling agency.

the editors don't have much to work with except when johnny does something. makes you wonder if the show is worth anything once johnny gets sent home.

this show is not worth writing about anymore. it's not worth recording on your tivo's and it's not worth repeating. thanks to billy cross + johnny, this show makes me sick in the stomach and head.

did you know: that i don't care about the fate of strip search contestants. and i don't care enough to research the place where billy's new show will debut on the strip. if you have information, please let us know. oh wait, did you know that when vh1's surreal life season with brigite nielsen got exotic dancers to interrupt their outside dinner, it was billy cross' australian thunder down under dancers! i know, right... whooo cares!!!

why is strip search better than kept? because this cast has johnny, the you can't take your eyes off the screen psycho!!! he's amazing television. the producers of the show must be f!cking their brains out when johnny's antics get ratings.

I agree! Kept is a much better show!!!! And I totally hate Richard and Slavco! They are going to make it to the end cause people hate them, and they keep the viewership up on the show! They knew that, and they use it...I just hope one of those jerdiot's does not win!

Gotta agree with you about Kept being better than Strip Search. Which is weird because the concept of Strip Search should make it way hotter. I do disagree with your picks on Kept, though. I love Anwar; he's playing the game well so far and i loved watching him pump down that runway in a skirt. And Devonric (or "Didi" as Jerri calls him), is setting off my homophobe alarm. Sorta like the Princess twins, Slutco and Ricard-ho. As for Jason, well, he got caught; that's the game.

I love kept and Stripsearch because they both have characters I love to hate but kept wins because it has tow assholes and Stripsearch only has one. I HATE!!!! Ricardo and Slavco(If jason hadn't been caught, Ricardo would be gone. DAMMIT!!)I also disagree with yourchoices. As far as the final five I see Austen, Devonric, Anwar, Jon(if he can get his act together) and someone yet to be decided. Anwar and Austen, as she's mentioned, are both men she could picture going with her to many different places. As of right now, I see Austen winning.

As for stripsearch, Johnny is psycho. he needs to get laid(hopefully by one of those 20 year olds); Leave it to him to take the hotness out of an all male revue.

All this about Strip Search and nothing (not even a mention!) on Bryce? Shame! I'm picking up your slack.

But I agree with you -- besides Bryce, the show's wack.

I was so happy Johnny left tonight. It wasn't that he's psychotic, so much as just stupid and confusing. I wouldn't worry about the drama being over....it seems like they're all turning on each other already. Ryan seemed like a sweetheart at first, and now he's turning mean in all his interviews.

I will miss Blake, though. He seemed really cool, and the boy was HOT!

However, I was glad Ricardo got booted on 'KEPT'. What a douchebag! I think Austen will win, because Jerry has had the hots for him from the beginning, and hasn't said anything negative about him. But, I'm kind of rooting for Seth.

guess what?????? sean looks just like my step brother\

Posted by: brittany at June 30, 2005 9:20 PM

Jerri seems pretty hard up, as i really don't know how she limits herself to kicking off only one next week. She comes off as nice though, kind of like a horny Kathy Hilton. Slavco and Ricky Ricardo had to go, although she kept calling them sexy and hating them for being vain, as if she isn't and even Bill Wyman, who should know about hanging around ugly people, said the bucktoothed Austen should go, along with Seth and presumably Jon, who's a joke. Mauricio should win, as he seems far more sincere than the phony Anwar or dim DiDi. I'm sure he cares about Jerry far more than she cares about him. On SS, Bryce should go, the brothers are oddly without any sex appeal, except to that girl who was on the preshow who disappeared. Sean and that midwest hottie who stripped in a parking lot should win this one.

I was just browsing through your june blog.. and noticed this familiar face.. from Power Rangers Wild Force (2002)..

the picture was of Ricardo Medina.. and base on the comments, i'm guessing he's a prick in real life..

Just wanted to say that its interesting that someone casted on PR would end up here..

but PRWF sucked anyways

brian is the hottest guy alive and he is the best on strip search. he is the reason 2 watch the show...another reason would be 2 watch hot guys dance in their underwear

Posted by: brian lover..a.k.a karin at July 10, 2005 7:55 PM

I absolutely adore Bryce. He was the only reason I watched StripSearch. When he was sent home, I was literally in tears, and I didn't bother to watch the show anymore because what was the point, right? Bryce rocks my world. He's so beautiful. B R Y C E

kept was better than strip search until jason was kicked off!!! damnit, i could eat him up hes so fine. both shows provided some great eye candy this summer....thanks vh1!

p.s. where can we see more of jason??!!!

Posted by: tim at August 5, 2005 8:29 AM

Kept is far better than Strip Search because Slavco and Ricardo are the hottes, however vainest men on the planet, you know it, say whatever, but its a fact, Slavco is so fine, that if I were in an elevator with him, we'd be rocking that elevator back and forth. Heck yeah baby!

Where I am Kept is like halfway through. But where I'm from shows are behind by like a year. So I'm probably the only loser in 2006 still writing about a show that is long since over. Still...that is fairly insignificant. The mportant thing is...
JASON WAS FINE! WHOOO! I'm so glad he got kicked of the show because, even though Jerry's a hot rich bitch, he would have been wasted on her. So really I'm glad he got the boot! Disappointed that he was willing to make out with some random chic when he had someone much prettier (and richer) that wanted him. But he has been heard to admit he only wanted to be Jerry's Kept man for the six figure 'allowance'. Who wouldn't? Sadly, he'll have to work for his money like all the other normal, ridiculously gorgeous, intelligent, ripped guys out there.

My favourite to win was Seth. Yes he was sophmoric and he needs to take himself more seriously. But he was also one of the only guys with a sense of humor and some semblance of honesty about him. I reckoned he was going to be one of the last standing. I rooted for him major. Austen seemed the most likely to win (boring though) and 'Didi' was definitely a strong contender. Respectful, genuine, level-headed and sweet.
I'm not even going to talk about Ricardo and Slavco. We all hate those bitches and there's nothing I can say that hasn't been said already. Except that I think that they should just hook up because there's no way they are going to find any woman (or even man) who is willing to tolerate those prissy, self-absorbed, air-headed bimbos.

Posted by: Maggie at October 1, 2006 8:32 AM

Strip Search was just too cheesy for me. Maybe that's just because of my adversity to strippers that don't look like Brad Pitt's twin brother.
Kept was cleverer and funnier and it had Jason Fromer so bonus points right there! It also had the two most hated reality 'stars' on Vh1, Slavco the Brainless and Ricardo the Loathsome. Those two were the most despicable, vindictive, corny, fake characters I have ever come across (and I watched the Apprentice, I'm comparing these guys to Omarosa). They talked s*** but they could never back it up. Total losers.
That said, they were cute (I hate to admit it, though) and they must have helped boost ratings 'coz everyone loves a villain (or two wannabe villains, more like).
God, that Jason was smokin'! Seth was all right. Immature but funny. I really liked Didi, he was cool. Austen was boring, Antwan boisterous and intelligent, Jon was such a cute little dwarf, I've already covered Ricky RIcardo and Slav-ho, and Jerry was almost convincing as the classy, sassy 'seductress'. All in all Kept was pretty entertaining.

Ricardo was a Power Ranger. Yes I do love Power Rangers but many of the men on that tv series are effin sexy.
