Paranormal Activity 3 | What You See In The Trailers Is NOT What You See In Theatres... Just Saying!
I'm of course not really spoiling the movie but I will prepare those of interest what you WON'T see in the film.
Now the list is long so be ready to be shocked to find out what's NOT in the film.
The burning of the classic childhood photograph found in the attic in part one... GONE.
The ENTIRE BLOODY MARY SCENE in the bathroom with the 2 girls... GONE. DELETED. ALTERED. Just not there! There's no "woman figure" standing behind one of the girls. IT'S NOT THERE!
The "knocking game" is gone. Not there.
The girl jumping off the balcony. GONE.
The girl throwing water on the imaginary friend and the block chair thing flying across the room right after. NOT THERE.
The guy who is telling the mother how "this thing is connected to your side of the family" is not there either. The entire scene where he's looking at the closet in the wall and the drawings... GONE. Him getting banged up on the table... VANISHED!
The girl in the car hiding... ERASED.
The staircase lights exploding... Wasn't there.
The shot of the house on fire... COMPLETELY GONE.
The 2 sisters standing in the corner in the darkness downstairs... NOPE.
The should have been classic scene of "we're getting out of here, just get in the car and drive"... The mother flying into the bedroom with the doors closing and the father getting thrown in the hallway... GONE GONE GONE GONE!
And the viral clip showing the mother being thrashed around in the bed, most likely right after being flown from the door to the bed... NOT THERE EITHER.
I think that's mostly it. The whole Poltergeist Carol Anne reference is gone too.
I kinda get what the filmmakers were/are trying to do. They wanted you to go into the theatre thinking you knew what was going to happen and then you get something completely diferent, all new scenes and new experiences and new scares that you are completely caught off guard. It's a great way to scare the viewing audience and those thinking they know what's about to happen.
I would say all the deleted trailer and teaser stuff will make the "extended" DVD cut for increased home sales.
I personally still loved the movie but I would have to disagree with Ain't It Cool News with their lame ass quote that the last 15 minutes of the film will "MESS YOU UP FOR LIFE". Um... no it did not.
When the movie ended we did get the usual "that was a waste of time" and "that wasn't good at all" and "it wasn't scary" yet people were screaming at the good parts and one guy was clapping after a scene in the kitchen because it was just that good. And no one walked out of the screening. It is worth your money, it's great watching with a group of friends and/or your lover. I did see a family go into another theatre with a freaking 3 year old! I guess some people just want to see this film that badly.
This review was basically spoiler free. I only tried to tell you what isn't in the film. This had better not be a new "trick" that studios plan on using. I mean this trick has been around forever, remember Twister, the tractor wheel in the trailer but no where in the film. The trend is there but I've never seen it this bad.
Have fun with the fun house that is Paranormal Activity 3!
